Today was a big day. I got my Italian health insurance from the Post Office this morning and then went to Pitti Palace. I’ve gone to a few of the most famous museums here and no one ever told me how incredible this one was in comparison. Maybe it’s not the most visited place because it’s on the other side of the river but my God!!! The gardens alone are so sprawling and amazing. It’s like being let loose in history. Each and every turn around the garden revealed another treasure of sculpture. I spent as much time outside hiking around as I did inside.
The inside was no less spectacular. I have two favorite rooms, the Sala Bianca and the Green Room. I couldn’t stop smiling in either room…it was another moment today that I am in friggin Italy people!!! Holy crap!!!
The Sala Bianca I sat down with the security guard for a while to drink in the chandeliers. It had 7 huge ones hanging in the center of the ceiling, 52 small chandelier type scones adorning the walls equally spread out. The guard said that all are now electrically lit and work. I can only imagine what it’s like to be in there at night with them all twinkling.
The Green Room was opulence at it’s finest. The stories of the Medici family and their wealth is displayed all over this place. Yes many treasures have been added after their demise but the feel is still very much Italian Royalty.
I have to say that it’s my favorite place to date. Yes, Venus is beautiful…and the Leonardos are amazing…but this place has so much shoved into it and the outside…well…I could go on forever. I did shoot a video so I’ll post the link to that as well. There is this fountain that looks as if it was more a bath back in the day located right inside the main center opening and it’s has completely captured my attention. I might have to go back tomorrow or Monday just to hang out there. I actually took a few videos, which now in hindsight I kinda wish I’d brought a video camera, but my little point and shoot is doing a bang up job. I’ll have them all posted on YouTube at the same time I hope.

A funny side note, the woman that sold gave me my ticket today, another free admittance with my membership, was named Elisa as well. That is 2 since I’ve been here…I don’t EVER run into anyone with my name! These postings say the same day because I have to do a little recon to get them up, but the photos and the blogs are written on different days. I have more photos on Flickr as usual, a few renegade ones I took at Pitti when I wasn't supposed to!
